Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price, last season’s Cy Young Award winner has been named cover athlete for the 2013 version of the Major League Baseball® 2K13 Xbox 360® video game.
Price earned the American League best pitcher award after posting a 20-5 record and league-best 2.56 ERA in 2012 narrowly beating MLB 2K12 cover athlete Justin Verlander for the honors. He is the third consecutive reigning Cy Young Award winner to be on the cover of an MLB 2K game.
“It’s a dream come true to appear on the cover of MLB 2K13,” concluded Price, who helped lead the Rays to their fourth 90-win season in the last five years. “I’m looking forward to working with the 2K Sports team again, and welcoming another skilled gamer into ‘The Perfect Club.’
2K Sports will launch its Perfect Game Challenge contest giving players of the video game a chance to win cash prizes. Since 2010, 2K Sports has awarded $3 million in prize money to players exhibiting the highest caliber of skill in throwing a perfect game in “MLB 2K”. Last year’s Perfect Game Challenge achieved record participation numbers, with nearly 1 million attempts made and more than 1,000 perfect games registered. Complete details of this year’s contest will be announced at a later date.
The Tampa Bay Rays recently signed Price to a one year contract to avoid arbitration.
