It's been a big week for Ray Lewis' family. The now retired Baltimore Ravens standout not only lead his team to a Superbowl victory, but just four days later he watched proudly as his son signed a letter of intent to play at his alma mater. With the decision to go to University of Miami, Ray Lewis' son, Ray Lewis III, follows in both of his parents' footsteps, Yahoo! Sports reports today (Friday).
The younger Lewis played as a quarterback in high school, but is expected to play defensive back when he puts on the Hurricanes uniform. Lewis III admitted he considered the current situation and pending sanctions by the NCAA at Miami before agreeing to play there. ''The sanctions and some of those things, it didn't change my decision whether I wanted to go there or not but it was something I thought about. It is unfortunate, but sometimes it's got to get worse before it gets better," he said.
Proud father, Ray Lewis, says his outstanding football career has come full circle during his eldest (of six) son's life and he's proud to watch his namesake take over the reigns on the field. "I made a stand my junior year in college, the year he was born, that it was time for me to go to the league," Ravens' star Ray Lewis, 37 said. "Now the year that he's walking into college, I've made another stand that it's time for me to leave the league."
Ray Lewis was drafted by the Ravens in 1996 and played his entire 17 year career in Baltimore. When he announced his retirement, Lewis was the last member of the inaugural Baltimore Ravens team.
