'Ray Donovan' second season return announced by Showtime

"Ray Donovan" will premieres its second season consisting of 12 one-hour episodes of drama on July 13, 2014 (9 p.m. ET/PT), according to a media announcement emailed by Showtime on March 19. "Ray Donovan" stands as Showtime’s highest-rated freshman series ever, as the network's first freshman sries to average over five million viewers per week, with 5.7 million weekly viewers during its first season.

The drama stars stars Liev Schreiber in his Golden Globe-nominated role as the title character, alongside Golden Globe winner Jon Voight as his father. Showtime has also announced new guest stars, including Hank Azaria and Ann-Margret.

Ray Donovan (Schrieber) is known as LA’s best professional fixer, the man called in to make the city’s celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls’ most complicated and combustible situations go away. Ray is known as a problem solver for his clients, but his own life spun out of control in season one.

As the season unfolds, Ray will seek balance between the demands of his family, his volatile relationship with his father, Mickey Donovan (Voight) and the ever-changing demands of his celebrity Hollywood clients.

Season one came to a close with an epic showdown with Boston mobster and fugitive, Sully (James Woods) that resulted in the death of the murderous gangster.

Season two will explore the fallout of Sully's violent murder for Ray and his troublesome father Mickey. The FBI, headed by LA Bureau Chief Cochran (guest star Hank Azaria), will be a thorn in Ray's side. Sherilyn Fenn will guest star as Cochran's frumpy wife, Holly Cochran,

Wendell Pierce guest stars as Mr. Keith, a down on his luck parole officer who gets a payoff from Ray.

The cast also includes Paula Malcomson as Ray's wife Abby Donovan, Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Steven Bauer, Katherine Moennig, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey and Devon Bagby.

The guest cast of "Ray Donovan" includes Oscar-nominated actor Elliott Gould as Ezra Goldman, Hank Azaria as Chief Cochran, Ann-Margret as June Wilson, Wendell Pierce as Mr. Keith, Sherilyn Fenn as Holly Cochran, Vinessa Shaw, Brian Geraghty, Heather McComb and Kip Pardue.

"Ray Donovan" is created and executive produced by Ann Biderman. A SHOWTIME production, the series is also executive produced by Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff.
