Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco received a new contract deal extension for six years at $120 million according to a report by CBS Sports on March 5, 2013.
The new contract makes the 2013 Super Bowl MVP the highest paid quarterback and overall player in NFL history. Flacco feels that the offer is more about the team's owners showing respect for the player and the money is secondary.
Flacco said in a news conference, "It was never about earning the money and all that. It was about earning the respect," Flacco said Monday at his press conference announcing the new deal. "Definitely about earning that respect and feeling that respect around here."
Flacco continued, "the fact that we got it done and that they made me the highest-paid player in the NFL, definitely makes me feel good about how we played and how they feel about me."
CBS Sports reports, "Flacco's offer eclipsed Drew Brees' average annual value of $20 million." Flacco is now the highest-paid player in NFL history.
