BALTIMORE,Md.-- The Baltimore Ravens moved the ball, however turnovers plagued the team as they lose the first game of preseason,34-27
A flurry of mistakes made the Ravens guilty of turnovers in which the Carolina Panthers were happy to take advantages of the miscues.
Ted Ginn Jr. Returned a 74 yard punt for a touchdown, Thomas Davis scored on a 2-yard fumble return and linebacker Luke Kuechly picked off Joe Flacco' passes late in the second quarter to set up a 54-yard field goal by Graham Gano for a 24-7 lead.
Before halftime, Carolina(2-1) had 67 yards in offense before halftime, but had 24 straight points after Baltimore(2-1) scored it's touchdown on its first possession.
Third Quarter, D. J. Moore intercepted a pass by Tyrod Taylor, returning it for 31 yard touchdown making the score 34-17.
Joe Flacco, Super Bowl MVP, came back to play in the third quarter and went 18 for 24 for 169 yards and a touchdown. In three preseason games, he has two TD passes and three interceptions. The Panthers' Cam Newton went 10 of 19 for 99 yards.
"We opened the game the way we went to play and know how we can play," Offensive Coordinator Jim Caldwell said. "We were crisp."
Flacco threw a third-down pass intended for wide receiver Tandon Doss, but the error in communication led to an interception.
"It was just a lot of miscommunication," Flacco said. "Tonight was one of those games that we did a lot of good things, but we had some miscommunication and turned the ball over too much.
Flacco connected with un-drafted rookie wide receiver Marlon Brown on a 24-yard touchdown. Brown caught four passes for 59 yards and the touchdown, playing for position on the 53-man roster.
Even though the Ravens lost, the main focus is the goal to be prepared for the first game of the regular season.
"I told our team we're preparing for two games-we're preparing for St.Louis and we're preparing for Denver." you prepare for the games at hand but you also prepare for the season."
The Ravens play the Rams next Thursday in St. Louis at 8pm.
