In what’s come to be known as the "Harbaugh Bowl," coach John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens are going up against coaching brother Jim Harbaugh’s San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Feb. 3. Today the boys' parents, Jack and Jackie Harborough, held a conference call for the news media when a suspicious call came in from “John from Baltimore.”
The call went like this according to The Baltimore Ravens:
“Is it true that both of you like Jim better than John?” the caller asked the two parents.
On the spot, but before either of the coaches’ parents could answer, the boys’ sister Joani Crean who was also present at the conference call recognized a familiar voice.
“Is that John Harbaugh?” Jack excitedly asked, which brought out big laughs from the Ravens coach and his family.
“Mom was ready to come right through this phone,” Jack said. “I’m so happy that Joani recognized your voice!”
There’s plenty of respect, love, and laughter to go around in the Harbaugh clan, even between the two brothers who’ll be coaching from different sides of the field on Feb. 3.
The prank phone call didn’t last long though as the Ravens’ head coach was being called back to work.
“Well you guys are doing great. It’s been fun listening to a couple minutes here. You’re very articulate and doing a great job,” John said.
“I have to go to practice now, they’re calling me right now. It’s good to hear your voices. Alright we’ll talk to you later. Love you both. Love you, Joani.”
The last time the two coaches’ teams met on Thanksgiving Day, the Ravens came away the victors by 10 points.
When asked what team she was rooting for this time, Mother Harbaugh replied "I'm going to be neutral in that game. I really would like it to end in a tie. Can the NFL do that?"
Ma and Pa Harbaugh aren’t picking favorites in the Super Bowl. They plan on catching the game from the privacy of their own home.
