Ratings Were not Boosted from Feuding on American Idol Season 12 Premiere

American Idol started its two night season 12 premier last night and the feuding between Mariah and Nicki did not boost the ratings, reports Vulture.com. However, the two night season premiere continues tonight and it is expected to be more of a cat fight between the two. Are these two putting this fight on to boost ratings? Some people think so but Fox’s reality chief, Mark Darnell says it is absolutely real.

The ratings may have dropped to just 18 million viewers for the first night season premiere but this is the exact number Fox was expecting to receive for ratings for the first night premiere. However, this is a low number compared to last year which the ratings number was as high as 22 million viewers and in 2010, the ratings were as high as 30 million viewers.

Although these numbers are low, this is nothing new for Fox right now since other season premiere shows on this station have dropped this year as well. Even though the ratings are lower than the previous year’s ratings for the show, American Idol is still predicted to top rivals such as The Voice and The X-Factor.
