Rat Race coming to the Jersey Shore (Photos)

On Saturday, March 23, 2013 “Rats” will again invade the Jersey Shore for the Annual Rat Race. No it’s not the cast of the reality show it is the spring edition of the “Rat Race” that will be held at Wells Mills Park in Waretown, N.J.

It consists of a 10K and 20K race through the scenic trails of the park.

Prospective “Rats” can get more information and register for the race here.

According to Bill Scholl the race director of Neptune Township the park will offer a very interesting and scenic course. It starts on a road by the ranger station and goes for about 2 miles on a dirt road before entering a marked trail through the woods. There are some moderate undulating hills through the wooded section of the course before the 10 K loop returns back to the ranger station area. The 20K runners will do two loops through the course. Bill always has some surprises on hand for the participants.

Unlike the fall edition the course will be well marked along a prescribed route with water stops and the distances have been measured to be accurate.

The 20K will start at 9:45 a.m. and the 10K at 10 a.m..

The 1st place male & female finishers in the 20K get a Dinner for Two at Rats Restaurant (4 star Zagat rated) in Hamilton, N.J. Additional awards to the first 3 male/female in each: 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70- + ); random “rattie” prizes

It is always a fun day at the park with one of the best post-race parties in the area.

The price is also right – it is only $20 until March 1, 2013 and then $25 after that.

Runners should also note that several other events will increase their prices on March 1, 2013 including the popular Asbury Park Half Marathon and Jersey Shore Five which are part of RunAPalooza.

Additional interesting upcoming events to check out.
