Rasmussen polls reveal conflicted public opinion on health care reform

Two Rasmussen polls released today reveal just how conflicted the American public has become on health care reform.  It seems that the health care town halls, Presidential speeches, and numerous television ads have left the American public confused about what they believe on health care reform.

The first of the Rasmussen polls shows that 59% of Americans believe Democrats should make changes to the health care reform bill to win over a reasonable amount of Republicans.  If you looked at this result you would assume that the American public is siding with the Republicans at this point and demanding that Democrats make more concessions to their Republican colleagues.  Yet another Rasmussen poll contains a curious contradiction to this assumption.

The second set of Rasmussen's results shows that 42% of Americans believe Republican opposition to reform is based on partisan politics while only 35% say it is because the actual contents of the plan.  Read together the two polls seem to suggest that Americans want Democrats to compromise more with Republicans even though Americans believe Republicans are acting on only partisan political interest.  Surely there must be another explanation for these numbers.

As usual the American public wants the impossible.  Americans rather pessimistic in their assessment of politicians which reflects their view that Republicans have partisan politics in mind when they oppose reform.  At the same time Americans expect their politicians to be bi-partisan so when they are asked whether Democrats should compromise more they generally answer yes.  In essence Americans assume the worst about Congress but expect the best.  When demanding that Democrats compromise with Republicans they expect those Republicans to be "reasonable" in their demands whether that reflects reality or not.

Republicans don't want bi-partisan politics. Every move the Democrats and the President make they are there to oppose it (unless it is a give away to corporate America). What we need is a single payer system that covers every American. I have never known anyone on medicaid or medicare to be turned away for pre-existing conditions nor have I ever seen anyone turned down for a needed surgery. Insurance companies have proven time and time again that if your sick they don’t want to cover you or the cost of premium is so high it breaks you and puts you in the poor house. I work in the collections industry and witness every day that amount of damage medical bills have on the American people. We can not wait for every politician to agree (exspecially with the amount of lobbists the insuarce companies have). There shouldn’t be a debate here the moral and respectable thing to do is take care of America as a whole. I say NO to the status quo. I say NO to compromise with a “Public Option”. I say

We can not wait for every politician to agree (especially with the amount of lobbyists the insurance companies have). There shouldn’t be a debate here the moral and respectable thing to do is take care of America as a whole. I say NO to the status quo. I say NO to compromise with a “Public Option”. I say YES to a single payer system that every American can enjoy. Medicare for all. The Program is already there common sense demands change.
