Sunday, Rashed al-Enezi, a social media activist who lived in Kuwaiti was sentenced to a two-year prison term for a Twitter post insult that he made against the ruler of the Gulf nation; the news has created an International buzz Monday.
Several newspapers in Kuwaiti reported the news Sunday, according to Fox News. Local officials have been increasingly arresting bloggers and those people who use social media as a way to complain about their country or leaders.
Rashed al-Enezi’s sentence is not the worst that has been seen in the country. In November of 2012, a Qatar poet was sentenced to life in prison when he wrote and published a poem that encouraged people to overthrow the ruling system in the country.
Rashed al-Enezi has already brought criticism from international rights groups.
The Al-Watan is a pro-government newspaper and they reported Rashed al-Enezi two year sentence Sunday.
Rashed al-Enezi, 26, was accused of insulting Kuwait's emir.
