In June of 2011, Rascall Flatts, a trio made up of lead singer Gary Levox along with Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, released Easy as the third single from their album Nothing Like This. Recorded with London-raised pop singer Natasha Bedingfield, Easy became a top ten hit on the Billboard Country Chart and in November was certified Gold by the RIAA for sales in excess of 500,000.
The video for Easy depicts a couple who, in keeping with the lyrics to the song, have to face each other at a high-profile party after a heart-wrenching break up. As the video opens, we see a large, columned building with a crowd of people waiting outside. It's quickly revealed that prestigious people are arriving by limousine and will soon be stepping out onto the red carpet where the crowd has gathered. Rascal Flatts are among the first to arrive.
As the guys from Rascal Flatts walk through an adoring crowd, Gary Levox begins the opening lyric which explains he has just broken up with his lady. The lyric continues with a man trying to be tough and pretend the breakup isn't affecting him, the listener knowing all along that it is. The scenes of Rascal Flatts from then on out alternate between the group singing in an empty foyer of the large building housing the party and the group performing the song amongst the crowd at the party.
Meanwhile, we see Natasha Bedingfield arriving by limo outside. As the limo pulls up, it's obvious that she is not ready to get out and face the crowd. At first she shields her face from the window, then appears to be in deep melancholy thought. She looks away from the door, then takes a deep breath before emerging into the crowd with a fake smile.
Natasha walks the red carpet, stunning in a muted eggplant gown, her hair swept to one side and pinned up with a feather and netting barrette. As the crowd watches her walk toward the building, she begins to sing her verse, which lets the viewer know that she, too, is missing the relationship that just ended despite the smile she wears. From that point forward, we see Natasha in alternating scenes, singing passionately with a balcony backdrop or singing amidst the crowd at the party.
As Gary Levox and Natasha Bedingfield wander through the crowd, it appears that they are looking for each other. Occasionally, another guest will look in their direction as though murmurs are going on behind their backs. At the end of the second chorus repeat, Gary Levox reaches his hand outward from the empty foyer where he and the band are singing and the scene morphs into the crowded party with Natasha Bedingfield walking toward him, almost as if his hand pulled her toward him.
As the third verse begins and Gary Levox and Natasha Bedingfield sing alternating lines, they come together face to face. Even as they sing, they skirt around each other, knowing they aren't together anymore, but obviously both feeling the heartache of being separated.
Each deliver their lines with expressions that convey the depth of emotion they are both feeling. They long to be together, but for reasons unknown to us, they have decided it can't work and now try their best to pretend it isn't killing them inside. When Natasha delivers the line that says they try to forget about the way it was, she runs her hand through her hair in an anguished moment. Seconds later, the clock strikes midnight and in a scene reminiscent of Cinderella, she senses the urgency to leave. She turns, kisses her hand and places it to Gary Levox' cheek in a final goodbye. She then hurries from the party, pauses briefly as though the weight of the evening just caught up with her, but then races down the red-carpeted stairs.
Halfway down the steps, Natasha Bedingfield loses her silver shoe, but though looking back, emotions propel her foward. She is seen reaching for the yellow door of what is presumably a taxi as we see Gary Levox step outside. He walks down to where she dropped her shoe, picks it up and holds it in his hand, one last reminder of her.
In Easy, Rascal Flatts and Natasha Bedingfield take the viewer on a familiar journey of a broken relationship and the difficult journey of trying to be brave in the days that follow, even when your heart is breaking. The sting of a relational separation is an experience most people endure at some point in their lives, making the lyrics easily relatable. That this song can be felt so deeply by so many and the beautiful blending of Natasha Bedingfield's voice along with Rascal Flatts made Easy yet another hit for Rascal Flatts. The group continues to sell millions of albums, with a solid fan base since their debut in the year 2000.

Lyrics for Easy by Rascal Flatts:
(Gary Levox)
We broke up
yeah, it's tough
most guys would've been crushed
Wastin' their time
Wonderin' where they went wrong
No way, not me
Hey, I'm doing just fine
I'm not afraid of movin' on
It's easy going out on Friday night
Easy
every time I see her out
I can smile, live it up
The way a single guy does
But what she, what she don't know
Is how hard it is to make it look so
Easy
(Natasha Bedingfield)
The truth is
I miss lyin' in those arms of his
But I don't
ever let it show
I laugh and I act like
I'm having the time of my life
as far as he knows
It's easy goin' out on Friday night
Easy, everytime I see him out
I can smile, live it up
The way a single girl does
But, what he, what he don't know
is how hard it is to make it look so
Easy
Oh, it's easy
(Gary Levox/Natasha Bedingfield)
Oh, it's easy, goin' out on Friday night
Oh, it's easy, every time I see him out
I can smile, live it up
Forget about the way it was
But what she
Oh, what he don't know
What she don't know
Is how hard it is to make it look so
Easy
oh oh oh
oh oh oh
oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh
It's so easy
It's so easy
