Wednesday, the Sacramento Bee reported that a set of identical triplets were born in Northern California a few weeks ago; identical triplets are a rarity in the medical world. Doctors at Sutter Memorial hospital said the odds of naturally conceiving identical triplets are somewhere between 1-in-1-million to 1-in-200 million.
The identical triplets were born Nov 22. to Hannah and Tom Hepner and were named Abby, Brin and Laurel were born Nov. 22. Each baby was small with Laurel weighing the most at 4 pounds. All of the identical triplets are still in the hospital, but are not in any danger.
Identical triplets occur when a fertilized egg is split into three.
