According to reports on Jan. 29, 2013, Kimberly McCarthy will become the 13th female in the history of the U.S. to be executed by the justice system.
Reports claimed that McCarthy’s is one of the rare executions wherein she will be executed by lethal injection in Texas on January 29. McCarthy was convicted of the stabbing murder of a 71-year-old neighbor in 1997.
McCarthy will also become the first women to be executed in Texas in more than eight years. During McCarthy's trial, she was also tied to two similar murders committed a decade ago.
Earlier, the last woman executed in the U.S was Teresa Lewis of Jararat, Virginia on September 23, 2010, after five years of the previous execution.
She was executed for plotting murder of her husband and stepson for insurance money. Forty-one-year-old Lewis arranged the double murder in lieu of a quarter-million dollar in insurance payments. However, the two men who actually carried out the shooting escaped death sentences.
