A rare calico lobster is a one in 30 million find. That's why it's so exciting that one has been discovered in Newport, Rhode Island.
The lobster was recognized as something special by lobstermen from Aquidneck Lobster. They reported the spotted wonder to Save The Bay, which then arranged to have the rare lobster transported to their aquarium where it will live out the rest of its natural life without danger of being eaten by predators.
A January 24, 2012 report by Cara Kenefick of Newport Patch said that the lobster is about three to five years old and measures seven inches in length. It hasn't been named yet, and Save The Bay is open to suggestions from the public.

Although they are rare, calico lobsters turn up more often than you would expect. Just last December, a similar calico lobster made its way to a fish market in Chatham, Massachusetts before being rescued and shipped to a Boston aquarium.
