Rare Beatles Yellow Submarine bike included in EMI Japan quake relief auction

The Beatles are among over 70 EMI artists participating in a huge celebrity auction for Japanese earthquake relief that starts today on eBay.

The auction, to be done in two phases between April 5-21, will feature items from other EMI artists including David Bowie, the Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, the Beastie Boys, Depeche Mode, Keith Urban, Simple Minds, David Gilmour, Iron Maiden, Dean Martin, Megadeth, Norah Jones and Simply Red.

The item donated by the Beatles, to be featured in the second phase of the auction, is the last of a extremely limited edition Schwinn bicycle featuring the Yellow Submarine artwork that was never sold publicly.

Other prizes include an opportunity to sing a duet with Dean Martin at the Capitol Records studios, two tickets to a show and a meet-and-greet with Keith Urban, 35 albums autographed by David Bowie, a painting by Duran Duran, a signed bag from the Jonas Brothers, a signed guitar from Willie Nelson and a signed poetry book from Aaron Neville. Three items have also been donated by Abbey Road Studios, including a studio tour (the studio isn't open to the general public), a pair of Quested Q412 loudspeakers, system, amps and crossovers (circa 1987) from Abbey Road Studio 3, and a 1921 Steinway grand piano from the now-closed Olympic Studios, along with a photograph of it being played by Bono.

The auction will feature also a group of other items, including a collection of all 37 editions of the U.S. NOW compilation series, plus a collection of signed CDs, box sets, posters and other items from artists including Jane’s Addiction, Robbie Williams, John Lennon, David Bowie, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and The Band.

The auction will be managed by eBay and all proceeds will be used towards the Japanese Red Cross disaster relief efforts.

The first phase of the charity auction starts today (April 5) and will run until April 15th. The second phase will take place between April 11th – 21st. All the items can be viewed at www.ebay.com/EMIfamily4Japan.
