Raquel Welch, 73, reveals anti-aging low-carb diet and workout secrets

Raquel Welch has been a sex symbol for over 50 years, and is still ravishing at 73, thanks to a low-carb gluten-free diet and daily yoga workouts.

Welch admits aging is rough, but her fitness-minded lifestyle has made getting older easier to navigate.

"I'm holding together just fine, but I'm not doing it with no effort," Raquel told Reuters. "I'm doing my yoga everyday — an hour-and-a-half of that.

We can all agree that aging is challenging, but believe me, it can be even more so for a fading sex symbol."

Welch admits she has "always been a health fanatic" whose diet excludes salt, sugar, wheat and caffeine. In addition to yoga workouts, Raquel lifts light weights and does cardio exercise.

Welch detailed her fitness and beauty secrets in her 2010 memoir, Beyond the Cleavage. The brunette beauty is obsessive about her diet and never eats after 6 p.m.

I’m constantly on a diet, and I hate it. I have three fruits a day and lots of water. I love bread, pancakes, and burritos, and pizza, but I have to stick to the diet, because it makes me look and feel better.

I found out a long time ago that if I indulged by stuffing my face with great food, lying about watching TV or talking on the phone, I was not a happy camper. I have a very exciting life and to enjoy it I have to keep in shape and look as good as I can. It's a trade-off. The body beautiful is not a top priority any more - health and well-being are more important."

Welch tried hormone-replacement therapy and estrogen boosts to cope with menopause, but found that diet and exercise were the most effective at relieving weight gain, bloating and hot flashes.

Raquel's age-defying beauty secrets include regular Botox injections and scrupulous skincare. She views plastic surgery as a last resort, insisting eating well and exercising regularly are the true fountains of youth.

"I don’t care what kind of plastic-surgery exploits you get into, it’s not going to do the trick," she said. "You absolutely have to have an exercise program. I do something physical every day."

While many women (especially beautiful starlets) have a tough time dealing with getting older, Welch loves where she's at in her life right now. "The [good] thing about aging is that it's got all these wonderful answers attached to it," she said.
