You've probably never heard of him before. And, sadly, you'll never hear of him again.
He was lucky enough to have met the Senegalese-American sensation, Akon, who also introduced us to Lady GaGa and Colby O'Dennis, and to have released one single, "Who The Heck Is That", with auto-tune king T-Pain. But in one split second a bullet dashed his hopes of stardom and his future on Earth.
His name was Dolla, and he is no longer with us, thanks to a gunman, who spotted and blasted the poor young protege in a Los Angeles shopping center on Monday.
A bullet struck 21-year-old Roderick Anthony Burton II of Atlanta in the head at close range while he was talking to one DJ Shabazz, a rapper and (obviously) disc jockey, in LA's Beverly Center. Eaters at a nearby Chipotle restaurant screamed for help and hid, while Shabazz looked astounded, saddened, and bewildered, He and Dolla's publicist, Sue Vannasing, later confirmed Dolla's identity to authorities arriving on the scene.
One suspect, 23-year-old Aubrey Berry was apprehended trying to board a plane at Los Angeles International Airport, after he and another fled the scene in a Mercedes SUV. The identity of the second suspect has not been released as of yet.
One can only hope justice is swiftly served, as Dolla's family and DJ Shabazz and Vannasing mourn a bright young man with a bright future.
