Former Key West hotel worker, Freddy Carcamo, 30-years old was convicted of rape this past Thursday. He was charged with 2nd degree sexual battery back in January 2010 for raping a woman in an alley near Duval Street.
After this conviction he faces up to 15 years in prison plus an additional 10 years for two cocaine sales convictions. In 2010, the victim supposedly danced with Freddy at a bar. When she went to the bathroom and returned, he was gone so she decided to look for a cab to leave. Freddy’s defense tried to argue that the sex was consensual, but the victim reported that Freddy grabbed her, held her down by her wrists during the rape, and hit her in her face when she tried to fight back.
Freddy supposedly told her to “just take it” despite her pleads that she was a mother. After the attack, the victim made it to Duval Street where she was helped by other pedestrians. Although the pedestrians found Freddy and the victim identified him, since she then fled before police arrived Freddy was released.
Police eventually found the victim and she told her that her attackers name was Freddy and that his last name started with a “c”. She said that he told her he worked at a hotel and was on probation for selling cocaine. Detectives called the hotel and confirmed that a man named Freddy Carcamo worked there. They then went to his home and arrested him. Clothes that matched the victim’s description were found at his home. The victim no longer lives in Key West and Freddy now awaits his sentence at the Monroe County Detention Center.
