Who is Keith Dixon?

I'm many things...A entrepreneur, artist and family man. But most of all, I'm a creator and visionary who just loves to bring ideas to life.

I heard you are from the bay...What part?

Yes, I was born and raised in Oakland, CA and lived all over the Bay Area.

Is Music your first love?

Music and art is definitely my first love.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music?

Very musical. I have a musical and soulful taste as an artist and love the art of storytelling. I will always paint a picture for the listener as if it was a short film using different genres of music and combining them. As a Songwriter, my style is simply how I'm feeling.

Who are some of your musical influences?

Kanye West, Prince, Ma$e, Tupac, T.I. Donnie Hathaway and A Tribe Called Quest.

You dropped a single, "Bad Girl" earlier this year featuring Rapper Clyde Carson. Can you tell us a little more about the track, who or what inspired it?

The record "Bad Girl" conceptually came from my experience with women. I feel like I always meet a lot of bad girls and in different forms...So, that's what really inspired me to talk about it, but a bad girl to me is a woman that you know you shouldn't be dealing with but there's just something about her that draws you in. Another influence was Q-Tip's "Vivrant Thang." If you listen carefully, you can hear similarities in the structure of the song.

Did you actually get a chance to hit the studio with Clyde Carson?

I actually sent the record over to Clyde Carson, he recorded his verse and sent it back to me. But I've met Clyde on several occasions being that we are both from Oakland and both live in Los Angeles. It was dope hearing Carson's verse because it gave the song a different perspective and added a flare.

When writing, what inspires you or where do you gain your inspiration?

Everything and everybody inspires me. When an idea comes to mind, I usually either record it in my phone or write it down. The whole world is my inspiration.

Have you ever doubted yourself or your career?

I wouldn't say doubted, but more frustrated. Time is one thing nobody can speed up or slow down. Your only defense with time is patience and spirituality.

Outside of music, is there anything else you're interested in?

Sports and traveling is what I love to do when I'm not making music. Since my life is a big party, I usually do relaxing activities.

If we were to go through your playlist, who are some artist that we would find?

Jay-Z, 90's R&B, 70's Soul like Al Green, Marvin Gaye...Erykah Badu, Sade, Tupac. I'm kind of an old head when it comes to listening to music. I love classics, it's what I grew up on.

What can your fans expect from Keith Dixon in 2014?

Currently working on my new EP titled, "Undivided Attention" which I'm narrowing down tracks on as we speak...So look out for that!

Where can fans follow you or find your music?

Check out my website, www.keithdixonmusic.com ... There you will be able to find everything.

What is the best advice you've been given upon launching your career in music?

Once you know what you want, out of what you want....Everything becomes clear. Also, always be honest with yourself.
