Anime and manga publisher Viz Media today announced that the martial arts, action-adventure, comedy series "Ranma 1/2" would once again be making its way stateside, in manga, anime and digital form.
Created by Rumiko Takahashi, the woman behind multiple popular series, including "InuYasha"; "Ranma 1/2" is one of Viz Media’s longest running manga series. The series follows Ranma Saotome, a martial artist who while on a training mission in China is cursed so that when he is splashed with water he is transformed into a beautiful woman, hot water reverses the effect. With battle hungry martial artists and woman hungry boys chasing poor Ranma, he/she never seems to run out of sticky situations.
Viz Media will be releasing the "Ranma 1/2" manga series in a 2-in-1 omnibus edition, reading right-to-left, beginning in early 2014. Next year the anime series will also see a home video release in both DVD and Blu-ray box sets.
"Ranma 1/2" has also launched today on Viz Media’s anime streaming site VizAnime.com, along with Hulu.com, with four new episodes debuting each Wednesday. Additionally, this fall the anime will debut on the 24-hour anime channel, Neon Alley.
Viz Media is also planning a variety of booth activities and special programming during the 2013 New York Comic-Con, which is taking place October 10-13. More details about those plans will be revealed as the convention draws near.
