It was not a good start for the Blackhawks as the Rangers came out flying. Brad Richards started the scoring when he beat Corey Crawford with a wrist shot at 5:06. It would get worse shortly after as Mats Zuccarello scored a power play goal on a wraparound that deflected off of the skate of Crawford and into the net at 9:29. The Rangers would take that lead into the dressing room.
The second period was a different story as the Blackhawks were able to convert on their chances unlike the 15 save performance by Henrik Lundqvist in the first period. On the power play, Jonathan Toews scored his 16th goal of the season on the power play when he beat Lundqvist on the stick side at 6:17. It was a quick strike again as Brandon Bollig scored his fourth goal of the year when he fired a wrist shot past Lundqvist at 8:05 to tie the game.
The third period was a back and forth battle between the teams. It would be the Rangers who would get the strike to take the lead for good as Crawford stopped a slap shot from Marc Staal. Carl Hagelin followed up with a rebound that was stopped by Crawford. But the persistence of Hagelin paid off as he followed up with another shot that he lifted over a sprawled out Crawford at 14:03.
What it means
