They say, “like father like son”. Except Ron Paul never had the opportunity to filibuster for 13 hours on the Floor to hold up a nomination of a CIA director.
But that’s exactly what his son US Senator Rand Paul did yesterday and into the night. It was old school. It was a one man show save for some help from Senator Ted Cruz. But it was clearly also the first salvo in a revolution by those who fear liberty is slipping from their grasp.
Paul’s contention is that the US drone program grants too much power to the executive branch who shouldn’t be permitted to kill American citizens on US soil.
“This is a long, drawn-out day, but it’s to try to get some answers,” said Paul at the 8 hour mark of his marathon at the podium. “It’s to try to shame the president into doing the right thing.”
As Rand Paul refused to stand down, Twitter lit up.
Judging from Tweets like, “I just found my candidate” and “we’re taking it to the streets”, Paul may have just re-ignited the movement begun by his father.
And yes thanks to Cspan, this revolution will be televised.
