Giuliana and Bill Rancic were devastated after learning that their surrogate had a miscarriage. According to People Magazine, the reality television stars recently spoke about the experience, which was filmed for Season two of their show. While the show was supposed to chronicle their lives as they prepare for baby #2, things took an unexpected turn while the cameras were rolling.
"This whole season on Giuliana and Bill we've been trying to have another baby. Unfortunately our surrogate Delphine who we love very much had a miscarriage. It's something that we didn't see coming. We were devastated," explained Bill.
The Rancic surrogate is a gestational carrier which means that one of Giuliana's eggs is implanted along with Bill's sperm so that the child is biologically their child. While this method doesn't always work, Giuliana and Bill know that it can work. After trying for years to conceive a child, the couple welcomed their son, Duke, via surrogate back in 2012.
"Delphine is amazing. We hit the surrogate lottery when we met her. Obviously this was no fault of hers. It's a double sadness because we didn't want her to feel bad. And Giuliana was rather distraught at first, but she's tough. In times like this we rely on our faith. Once the tears went away we started to look towards the future," Rancic continued.
The Rancic's surrogate will be asked to carry their child one more time according to Bill. "We're fighters. Hopefully we're going to have good news and Delphine will be on board one more time. We've had to battle it out and that's something that we're going to continue to do," he said.
