The Ultimate Fighter 18 features two MMA fighters from the Inland Empire. Riverside County's Ronda Rousey and Rancho Cucamonga's Cody Bollinger appear on the show. Rousey is one of the coaches on the show, and Bollinger is fighting on the show with the hopes of winning a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
In the beginning of the show, Miesha Tate walks into the TUF training center and surprises Rousey. Tate reveals that she has come to coach on TUF 18. Rousey worries that she has been replaced by Tate, but UFC President Dana White informs Rousey that Tate will be taking the place of Cat Zingano, who has suffered a knee injury.
After White tells Rousey that she will coach against Tate, he introduces the contestants on TUF 18 to the two coaches, Tate and Rousey. Male fighters and, for the first time on TUF, female fighters in the 135-pound division are competing on this season of the show.
In one of the qualifying fights, Cody Bollinger survives a triangle choke attempt from Rafael de Freitas in the first round of their fight and makes an impressive comeback in the second round. In the second round, Bollinger, who is associated with Millennia MMA in Rancho Cucamonga, throws a mix of fists and elbows to defeat his opponent by TKO.
Following the fights, Rousey wins the coin toss and the right to pick the first fighter or the first fight. Rousey wants the first fight, so Tate is allowed to pick the first fighter. Tate chooses Julianna Pena as her first pick, and Rousey picks Shayna Baszler. After Rousey and Tate pick the female fighters, they choose the male fighters. Impressed by Bollinger’s performance, Tate makes Bollinger the first male fighter to be chosen.
The show ends with Rousey making the first fight. Rousey decides to put her first pick, Baszler, against Tate’s first pick, Pena.
TUF 18 can be seen Wednesdays at 7PM PST on Fox Sports 1.
