Los Gatos Music & Arts’ venerable summer series, Jazz on the Plazz, continues tonight with a performance from the Perry Beekman Trio.
Hundreds of people will crowd Los Gatos Town Plaza for two hours of music beginning at 6:30 p.m. The vibe will represent Northern California at its finest – sophisticated but friendly, a place for families to enjoy top-notch performers in a welcoming environment. And the free admission ensures that the series each year carries the potential to introduce thousands of Northern Californians to the delightful indigenous American art form that it jazz.
Such a valuable community asset comes with a cost, naturally enough. As the series’ website notes, “Jazz on the Plazz relies solely on the generosity of our friends, supporters and sponsors. Many people make this concert series, our workshops and other arts programs possible with a tax-deductible contribution each year.”
Los Gatos Music & Arts also raises essential dollars through its annual gala. The 2014 edition is set for July 22 at La Estancia Estate. In addition to a performance from jazz giant Ramsey Lewis and his group, the evening will feature fine food and wine and silent and live auctions. The $150 tickets support not just Jazz in the Plazz but a number of music education programs including South Bay Summer Jazz Intensive.
This one-week master class is designed for talented and committed middle and high school music students with backgrounds that range from intermediate to the professional level. Students learn from professional musicians/educators and collaborate with fellow students from around the South Bay. Each day will feature master classes for each instrument, large and small ensembles, jazz vocabulary and ear training, and jazz styles.
Suffice it to say, here is an evening of jazz – and a summer-long series of jazz – well worth your support. Here's the rest of the 2014 lineup.

July 30: Frank Bey with Anthony Paule Band
