The 2014 NFL season will begin on Sunday, September 7, for the St. Louis Rams, with a Dome Opener matchup against the Minnesota Vikings at the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis.

Kickoff that day is scheduled for noon, and will pit two clubs against one another that are both looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued 2013 season that saw both the Rams and Vikings miss the playoffs and finish the year with losing records.

“This is always one of the most anticipated days of the NFL offseason,” Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said in a statement released by the team. “We’re excited to open the season at home in front of our fans against Minnesota. The Edward Jones Dome is one of the toughest venues in the NFL because of the atmosphere our fans create. It’s a great place to begin our quest to becoming NFC West champions.”

St. Louis, which won seven games for the second consecutive year under Fisher, was the only team in the NFC West Division that didn’t have a winning record last year, as the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers, and even the Arizona Cardinals all won at least 10 games.

Playing home-and-home series with those three teams already ensures the Rams of having a tough schedule in 2014, but with additional matchups against teams from the NFC East and AFC West, it’s not a stretch to believe St. Louis might have the toughest schedule in the entire league.

The Rams will play seven games against teams that made the playoffs last year, including both Super Bowl participants and three of the four that played in last year’s conference championship games.

On the road this year, St. Louis will play at Seattle, San Francisco, and Arizona, while also traveling to Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Kansas City, San Diego, and Washington.

Home games this year at the Edward Jones Dome will feature matchups against the three NFC West opponents, the Dome Opener against Minnesota, and visits from Dallas, Denver, Oakland, and the New York Giants.

The 2014 Rams home schedule will also feature both of the club’s primetime national television matchups.
On October 13, St. Louis will host San Francisco in the weekly Monday Night Football matchup on ESPN. Then on December 11, the Rams will host Arizona in a Thursday Night Football game that will be televised on CBS.

The home finale is December 21 against the Giants, with the regular season finale coming the following week at Seattle. That contest will mark the fourth time in the last five seasons that St. Louis will end its season with a road game against the Seahawks.
