Ramona Singer thinks that she and Sonja Morgan are the most important housewives on "The Real Housewives of New York City." In an interview with NY Daily News, posted on Tuesday, August 5, Ramona said that she and Sonja carry the show and that the other housewives just don't have big enough personalities to add much.
When asked for her thoughts on the low season six ratings, especially in comparison to seasons past, Ramona said that the new housewives have made the show "not so interesting," leaving her and Sonja to "carry the show." Ramona, having been on the show since the very first season, is the sole original New York City housewife. LuAnn de Lesseps, who has also been with the show since season one, reduced her participation to that of a part-time housewife for season six. Sonja joined the show in season three.
Ramona added that she doesn't believe that the chemistry of the cast is right, especially ever since producers did a major cast shakeup after season four. Carole Radziwill, Heather Thomson and Aviva Drescher joined the show upon season five while Kristen Taekman joined for season six. Ramona said that in order to be successful, the show needs women with big personalities, something which the new housewives lack because they're "too cautious.”
While Ramona did give the new housewives some compliments by saying that they're "nice...wonderful...smart and...great," she ultimately believes "they’re not big enough personalities." So what would Ramona do to put things back on track? It sounds as if she would bring back Bethenny Frankel and Jill Zarin. Ramona pointed out that "before it was [her], Sonja, Bethenny, Jill — four huge personalities" while now it's just her and Sonja who provide the necessary huge personalities.
Aviva Drescher and Kristen Taekman, who have both been involved in much of the drama this past season, would likely disagree with Ramona Singer's assessment that they don't have big personalities. Aviva would probably especially disagree since she even threw her prosthetic leg in a restaurant during the final episode!
Of course, it remains to be seen whether Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan will be invited back for season seven of "The Real Housewives of New York City." It has been reported that the entire cast, with the exception of Ramona, is in danger of being fired.
