I had the opportunity to catch up with the always busy, energetic, and wine connoisseur, Ramona Singer. When she is not working in the office, or filming “The Real Hosuewives of New York” she enjoys spending time with her husband, Mario and daughter, Avery. Ramona shared with me the details of her family’s vacation to the hot island of Anguilla and the experience at their most luxury hotel, The Viceroy. Ramona shared how important it is to take those moments to have fun with the people you enjoy the most, her excitement of her daughter’s Avery success, and Mario’s new eight-pack! Ramona will also be walking in New York Fashion Week, the fashion show, “The Reality of Fashion; The Reality of AIDS,” which will take place during New York Fashion Week in Manhattan. Ramona will be joined by former co-star and friend, Alex McCord and Aviva Drescher.
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): Happy 2013! Did you make a resolution or set any new goals for 2013?
Ramona Singer: “My goals for 2013 are to try and give up control (laughs) and to be more relaxed.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): You look great and I must admit you look great!
Ramona Singer: “Thank you, I have been taking care of myself, I’m not getting any younger and I want to be around for a long time for Avery as she goes off to college, gets married, and have children. I’ve been working out more, eating better, and I’m not stressing as much.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): You really know how to have fun, what made you and your family decide to go to Anguilla your holiday vacation?
Ramona Singer: “We always do Christmas week at our South Hampton home every year, and this year I wanted to do something really special and visit some place that we never been to before as a family, because this is Avery’s last year at home because she will be going off to school, and who knows what will happen. Anguilla has the prettiest beaches, and we stayed at the Viceroy, and I must say that it is the most beautiful properties I have ever stayed at in my life. This place was beyond fantastic in every way, and Avery had friends that were there, as well as me and Mario. It was perfect because we had our family time together, Mario and I had our romantic time together, Avery had her time with her friends, and overall it was a great mixture of a perfect vacation.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): What was one of your favorite memories from this vacation?
Ramona Singer: “The sunsets! Everyday we would all meet at this place called the “Sunset Lounge” at 6:00 and watched the sunsets; it was a very special time of day for all of us.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): How important is it for to forget about work for a while, enjoy time with your family, and have some good old ‘Turtle Time”?
Ramona Singer: “It’s the best to do that! New Years Eve this year was fabulous at the Viceroy they had great performances and fireworks at the “Sunset Lounge”, Avery and Mario spent time together, and then she hung out with her friends, and Mario and I spent time with ours. Believe it or not I was out till three in the morning! I can’t even remember the last time I did that (laughs). I thought that I would be in bed at least by one in the morning, but lord behold I was out till three in the morning.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): What workout is Mario doing to develop his very own “eight” pack?
Ramona Singer: “He inspires me to stay in shape! He went from a six-pack to an eight-pack (laughs) and he researches these exercises and does all these special workouts to become more toned than ever.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): How important is fitness to you both?
Ramona Singer: “I think fitness is good…let’s face it; you feel better when you’re fit and when you make love because you feel better about your body.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): How proud of you of Avery?
Ramona Singer: “I’m so happy; Mario and I did a great job with her. I think outwardly she’s very poised and beautiful, and inwardly aside from being intelligent, she’s very kind, giving, and personable. She has a great moral character and I will say she’s very compassionate and such a leader. In her junior year she became President of the Aids Society at her school, I’m very proud of her.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): What qualities of your personality do you think Avery inherited from you?
Ramona Singer: “She’s has a very strong work ethic, perceptive, and she says what’s on her mind, but she’s more edited than me (laughs). She’s more socially polite than me!”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): What college will Avery be attending?
Ramona Singer: “We don’t know yet, she has been accepted for some early action schools, but we’re waiting to hear from regular admissions. I know that wherever she goes, she’s going to be happy and thrive!”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): How is that transition going to be for you once she leaves?
Ramona Singer: “Thank God I still have a great relationship with my husband because I would be a lost soul (laughs).”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): How exciting is it to be able to walk in New York Fashion Week this year for such a great cause?
Ramona Singer: “I can’t wait! I really can’t wait to see Alex, I adore her and I’ll be sticking close to her and staying away from Aviva…just kidding (laughs). I’m happy to be a part of such a great cause and it’s going to be great to spend time with Alex again.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): How does it feel to have the launch of your new red wine?
Ramona Singer: “It’s great and I love both of them! I drink Pinot Grigio year round and sometimes I do enjoy my red wine, especially when I’m having a nice steak or whatever…I love wine, let’s put it that way (laughs)!”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): Can you give us any details on the upcoming season of “Real Housewives of New York”?
Ramona Singer: “Nothing has been officially announced, so I can’t say anything. I will tell you that it has been green lighted for a six season! No one knows when filming is going to start, who will be asked back, or if there will be any new ladies.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): How do you feel about Bethenny’s decision filing for divorce?
Ramona Singer: “I’m not sure if I can touch that subject…I will say that marriage is tough which is why 50 percent of marriages end in divorce and when someone makes a decision to separate or divorce, I know that it’s the most difficult decision in the world. The most important thing is to be happy in life, if someone isn’t happy in their marriage; they are not going to continue to stay.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): Have you been in contact with any of the other ladies since the reunion?
Ramona Singer: “Sonja of course! I’m actually on my way to take her to lunch today at Barney’s. I saw LuAnn at the annual Life & Style Holiday party which was nice. I then also saw Heather and Carole at a new shoe store opening on Madison Ave, and then had dinner with them later that week.”
Examiner (Anthony Bowles): Lastly, what can your fans and viewers expect from you in 2013?
Ramona Singer: “If I do come back in season six, people will see that I’m better than ever and going through the pain of letting my daughter go away to school. I still think in my head that she’s my little girl, but I am going to have to let her go and I know other parents can relate.”
