I reported last week that the newly formed Ram brand from Chrysler had become the official sponsor of the 2010 Kentucky Derby, with various examples of the brand parked around the grounds at Churchill Downs and the brand logo emblazoned on the jockey’s riding pants. Also, during the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday there were a variety of Ram commercials, including one comparing the powerful Ram brand to the thoroughbred horses participating in the Derby.
In my previous report, I officially picked Sidney’s Candy with West Coast phenom jockey Joe Talamo but by the stretch run it was obvious why I am an autowriter and not an oddsmaker. Sidney’s Candy ran towards the front of the Kentucky Derby for the vast majority of the race in the thick Kentucky mud but faded as the horses came out of the final turn.
For the second year in a row, jockey Calvin Borel rode the rail heading into the stretch run and took Super Saver to the winner’s circle of the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby. Borel has now won the last two Kentucky Derbies and three out of the last four. Borel also won all three races that comprise horse racing’s triple crown, although he did so on two different horses so there was no Triple Crown awarded. Borel’s win on Saturday finally gave legendary trainer Todd Pletcher his first ever Kentucky Derby win.

Ram brand will continue its advertising campaign during the broadcasts of the Preakness in two weeks and the Belmont Stakes to finish off the races that comprise the Triple Crown. The Ram brand hopes to build on its current popularity in the equine hobby with an enormous number of Ram buyers using their trucks to haul horses (per a study performed by Ram brand).
