Ram showed just how tough it really is at the 21st annual Texas Auto Writers Association Rodeo in San Antonio this past weekend by driving off with the crown of “Truck of Texas” for the second year in a row with its Ram 1500 diesel pickup.
40 members of the TAWA judged 63 pickups, SUVs and crossovers for their prowess in trailer hauling contests and well as on and off-road competitions, naming the 2014 Ram Diesel “best in show. In fact, Ram, Dodge and Jeep came away with 15 out of 24 prizes during the 2-day event.
“These brands clearly impressed our TAWA membership,” commented Association President Michael Marrs. “There’s no doubt that innovative powertrains, impressive designs and new technologies are paying off for them.”
Texas is the largest market for pickups, and winning the “Truck of Texas” is a big deal for manufacturers, including Chrysler, which introduced its re-vamped version of the heavy duty Ram 1500 pickups earlier this year. In fact, the new vehicles with their 3.0 Eco-diesel engines will be the only half ton diesel to hit the market (which has already grown by 23%) early next year.
