Ralph Lauren has donated $500,000 to raise funds and create grants for existing factories in New York. As part of the new Fashion Manufacturing Initiative, FMI, supports designers and provides opportunities to help advance their careers. Born in New York, Lauren started his business in the garment district.
Always giving back to the community,the Ralph Lauren label recently partnered with the ASPCA for the Dog Walk, which depicts rescue dogs on the streets of New york in scarves and accessories. The video was released during October, Adopt-a-Shelter- Dog Month. Through November 17th, 10 percent of the sales of items in the video will be donated to the ASPCS. , with prices ranging from $95 for a quilted doggie coat to $1950 for a leather dog carrier. All of the dogs featured in the Video have found happy homes!
Lauren began his career working for Brooks Brothers. He opened a necktie store in 1967, where he sold ties, some of which he designed under the label "Polo". In 1971, he opened his first Polo boutique in Beverly Hills, featuring his expanded line.
For over forty years, Lauren has continued his classic designs, with his Spring 2014 featuring styles such as a royal blue strapless a-line gown. The collection , predominantly black and white, also pops with rich jewels tones of yellow, red, orange,green and royal blue.
