Local organizers are inviting all interested parties to come to a rally in support of the Indian River Lagoon. There are very real threats to the fishing future of the lagoon that need to be addressed now.
A recent CCA Alert reported that the lagoon “lost over 60% of its seagrasses in 3 years, and over 50 bottlenose dolphins have died in just the last 7 months. On top of that, some groups out there who don't want us fishing there at all! These are just a few very real threats to our fishing future, right in our backyard.”
The rally is an opportunity to learn about the issues plaguing the lagoon and discover ways you can help. Organizers are looking for volunteers to help make oyster mats for an oyster bed rehabilitation project during the rally. There will be guest speakers, environmental education, family activities and food.
Mark you calendars and plan to attend, August 24th, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Riverside Park in Vero Beach.
For more information including maps and directions see the event’s Facebook page.
The event is hosted by Lange Sykes, CCA Treasure Coast Chapter President and Chairman of the Water Quality and Seagrass Subcommittee. The event is promoted as a family affair where everyone is welcome.
