The Sacramento River Cats are just over five weeks away from a home opener, but area prep players will have the first chance to get their cleats dirty at Raley Field when the annual baseball program gets underway next week.
The 2013 installment of what has become a staple at Raley Field since 2006 opens on March 2, when the junior varsity squads from Rio Americano and Bella Vista square off at 9:00 a.m. The varsity game begins at 12:30 p.m.
37 games in all, made up of 35 high school and the two highly anticipated college contests. The hometown Sacramento State Hornets play the Fresno State Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 26 followed by Chico State and Sonoma State on Sunday, April 28. Dixon and Union Mine close out the high school regular season with a doubleheader on May 7.
For the second consecutive year, coaches will choose the top high school performers from the regular season games at Raley Field to play in a showcase game on Sunday, June 2. Professional scouts and college coaches will be in attendance as some of the area’s best players hope to shine.
Along with a chance to play in one of the countries premier minor league ballparks, high school players are given the opportunity to sell River Cats tickets with proceeds going directly to their respective baseball programs.
The high school games are free to the public including parking. College game tickets may be purchased at the box office or online here. Here’s a complete listing of the high school and college schedules. For more information contact Samantha Bottari at (916) 376-4718 or sbottari@rivercats.com
