Raleigh Verizon Wireless customers will soon have another 4G smart phone option, the DROID 4, billed as the company's thinnest and most powerful 4G QWERTY smart phone. Introduced at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, the DROID 4 measures less than one-half inch thick and features a five-row QWERTY keyboard with edge-lit keys.
The device runs Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and claims government-grade encryption (FIPS 140-2) for email, calendar, and contacts, and comes pre-loaded with Citrix Receiver for Android for desktop virtualization and remote access.
The DROID 4 can act as a mobile WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices. It has an eight-megapixel camera with 180p HD video capture and a front-facing camera for video chat, plus a four-inch qHD display with scratch and scrape resistant glass.
The DROID 4 will be available staring February 10, 2012, at Verizon stores and online, for $199.99 with a two-year contract. The company's only other 4G smart phone with an external keyboard is the $99.99 Samsung Stratosphere. The Stratosphere is just over a half-inch thick, weighs 5.8 ounces, also functions as an eight-device mobile WiFi hotspot, runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and has front and rear cameras.
