Raleigh Karaoke Guide: Friday

The Triangle area is a virtual hotbed of karaoke establishments, with a number of local KJs and entertainment companies hosting shows throughout the area pretty much every night of the week. This is the third post in a series that will chronicle karaoke shows in and around Raleigh by day of the week.

Friday night: the official start of the weekend. Each week, bar staff love to see Friday and the boon in traffic that comes with it. Even though Friday night attracts quite a bit of traffic on its own, many local bars want to have that extra "oomph" to differentiate their bar from the sea of other spots you could hit up to start your weekend - and many use karaoke to reach that goal. Check out these local bars that fire up the mics on Friday night:

Jax Sports Grill, 2300 Gorman St.

For the past few months, Jax Sports Grill has been the home of a Friday night karaoke show hosted by KJ Hillary of Aries Entertainment. The small venue makes for a great loud, sing-a-long environment and the college-heavy crowd means you'll be surrounded by people ready to kick off the weekend with a bang. The show runs from 10pm - 2am.

The Brickhouse Sports Pub, 3801 Hillsborough St.

Hosting what might be the Triangle's highest-energy karaoke show, Dangerous Doug has been a mainstay at 3801 Hillsborough St. for many years - he's been hosting the Friday night show since the bar was called Playmakers. His mixture of humor, over-the-top performances of 80s favorites, and a great song list makes for a karaoke experience like no other. The show starts at 9pm and runs until about 1am, but you'll want to show up early. The list of singers can get very long very quickly at this karaoke hotspot.

Champions Bars & More (Morrisville), 10255 Chapel Hill Road #200, Morrisville

Karaoke-friendly Champions weighs in with yet another show at another location to start off the weekend. On Friday nights, you can find David & Jennifer Price's Super Karaoke at the Champions off Chapel Hill Rd (Hwy 54) in Morrisville. If you don't frequent the area, you might not even know it exists - but this location drums up quite a following for its karaoke shows. Remember the karaoke mantra - "show up early" - and you'll get a great seat, some great service, and the chance to sing a great tune or two.

Stay tuned for more articles in the series - and to find out where to belt out a tune any night of the week!

    Thanks for the mention!

Thanks for mentioning us and Champions Bars. We go the extra mile to give the best karaoke experience in all locations. Dangerous Doug (above) and I are 2 of the few LEGAL karaoke operators in our area sanctioned to legally play Sound Choice karaoke songs, as well as other companies. We actually buy the discs and karaoke music, keeping our songlists legal and the venues free of lawsuits from pirating...Thanks again for the mention!

Thanks for the mention, Brad! Hope to see you soon. I'm jonesin' for some of your "Walking in Menphis." Hope you are doing well. Take care.

I had a bad time at Jax. Worst crowd ever and the KJ was rude to me when I went a couple weeks ago. I'm sticking to Champions from now on. I had a blast this last Friday and it's away from the college crowd. Better sound equipment and a friendlier KJ and a FUN crowd.

Everyone should really check out Characters Quarters in Garner , hwy 70 - 800 feet from the Raleigh line.
Its a comedy Karoake scene - fun, full of enery with a neighborly feel. Great food and drink specials. Begins at 9.30 and goes on until 2am

To Michelle - You must have been drunk and/or obnoxious and given the KJ a reason to be rude to you. I've been to Jax for karaoke most every Friday last year until they closed the place and the KJ was always fun, very friendly, and put on a really great show. Been to David's show at Champions as well and as far as the sound equipment really need to have your ears checked. Worst sound I've ever heard at karaoke.
