The Triangle area is a virtual hotbed of karaoke establishments, with a number of local KJs and entertainment companies hosting shows throughout the area pretty much every night of the week. This is the third post in a series that will chronicle karaoke shows in and around Raleigh by day of the week.
Friday night: the official start of the weekend. Each week, bar staff love to see Friday and the boon in traffic that comes with it. Even though Friday night attracts quite a bit of traffic on its own, many local bars want to have that extra "oomph" to differentiate their bar from the sea of other spots you could hit up to start your weekend - and many use karaoke to reach that goal. Check out these local bars that fire up the mics on Friday night:
Jax Sports Grill, 2300 Gorman St.
For the past few months, Jax Sports Grill has been the home of a Friday night karaoke show hosted by KJ Hillary of Aries Entertainment. The small venue makes for a great loud, sing-a-long environment and the college-heavy crowd means you'll be surrounded by people ready to kick off the weekend with a bang. The show runs from 10pm - 2am.
The Brickhouse Sports Pub, 3801 Hillsborough St.
Hosting what might be the Triangle's highest-energy karaoke show, Dangerous Doug has been a mainstay at 3801 Hillsborough St. for many years - he's been hosting the Friday night show since the bar was called Playmakers. His mixture of humor, over-the-top performances of 80s favorites, and a great song list makes for a karaoke experience like no other. The show starts at 9pm and runs until about 1am, but you'll want to show up early. The list of singers can get very long very quickly at this karaoke hotspot.
Karaoke-friendly Champions weighs in with yet another show at another location to start off the weekend. On Friday nights, you can find David & Jennifer Price's Super Karaoke at the Champions off Chapel Hill Rd (Hwy 54) in Morrisville. If you don't frequent the area, you might not even know it exists - but this location drums up quite a following for its karaoke shows. Remember the karaoke mantra - "show up early" - and you'll get a great seat, some great service, and the chance to sing a great tune or two.
Stay tuned for more articles in the series - and to find out where to belt out a tune any night of the week!
