Since Maj. Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, started Patriot Golf Day in 2007, more than $17.1 million has been raised for postsecondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed. More than 5,000 scholarships have been awarded in the past six years.
Participating facilities donate a portion of greens fees during Patriot Golf Day, which has evolved in a weekend-long event. This year, it lasts through Monday.
In Raleigh, golfers can help by playing a round or hitting balls at these facilities:
- Brier Creek Country Club
- Lonnie Poole Golf Course
- North Ridge Country Club
- Raleigh Country Club
- River Ridge Golf Club
- Wildwood Green Golf Club
- The Golf Academy
- Triangle Golf Complex
Across the nation, thousands of facilities are participating in this year's fundraising event. To find a course, go to Play Golf America.
