Raleigh’s Colony Theatre certainly knows how to do retro right. The Cool Classics series continues with Roman Polanski’s genius noir flick “Chinatown” on January 15th, 2014. Ambassador Cinemas project a selection of classics the third Wednesday of the month. The first Wednesday of the month sees endearing Golden Age hits gracing the big-screen. Next up is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” in February. Lastly, Cinema Overdrive sees a zany film hitting the box-office the second Wednesday of the month. “Eating Raoul” airs February 12th, and this January’s headliner was Sam Peckinpah’s “Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia.”
Similarly, Durham’s Carolina Theatre hosts several throwback fests. Check out “The Wicker Man” and “The Third Man” this Friday, January 10th. “The Breakfast Club” and “Purple Rain” follow on the 17th, and “Re-Animator” and “In The Mouth of Madness” to close out the month. Each showing is a double feature, so $8 allows admission to both movies. Also towards the end of the month is “At Middleton,” part of the New York Film Critics Series. It’s a great opportunity to catch an indie film before official release. Along with the actual movie are interviews with directors and actors.
Go grab some popcorn, turn off your cell phone, and catch some excellent cinema this month. Comment below or tweet @mitchellclong with any additional movie features in the Triangle Area.
