Rakdos, Lord of Riots will be commanding the hedonistic, chaotically inclined unleashed black/red legions in the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Return to Ravnica. This deadly mythic demon pushes out massive board presence for a paltry sum of four mana and was officially previewed today on the official Magic: The Gathering site.
Rakdos, Lord of Riots
Legendary Creature – Demon Mythic Rare
You can’t cast Rakdos, Lord of Riots unless an opponent lost life this turn.
Creature spells you cast cost 1 less to cast for each 1 life your opponents have lost this turn.
Rakdos may have a barrier to cross to get onto the battlefield, but once there is going to take over a game fast. Putting on a few points of damage shouldn’t be difficult at all for a Rakdos deck to accomplish, and once the legendary Demon goes on the offensive your opponent is going to be dying quickly from six points of trample in the air.
If that wasn’t enough for a four drop, after Rakdos begins bleeding the opposition’s life points gigantic creatures can start hitting the board for a nominal fee. Everything from Myr Battlespheres to Eldrazi can be played for next to nothing. Or even nothing!
As a general in a Commander deck Rakdos can spew forth a hand full of impossibly huge creatures with a sing swing. As an addition to a Commander deck, Kaalia players will find his surprise entrance herald to a blowout.
Is Constructed ready for a legendary 4 drop? We’ll see.
In Limited getting Rakdos out may be slightly more challenging and less reliable than a Standard deck packing plenty of damage sources, but rest assured – Once he comes down the game will be ending in short order if he isn’t answered immediately. Is Rakdos worth a first pick, the answer is a resounding yes.
