Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is reportedly being coveted by the Houston Rockets.’s Marc Stein reported Monday that the Rockets are expected to turn their attention and efforts to trading for Rondo after the team lost out on Chris Bosh who returned to the Miami Heat.

Trade rumors in connection with Rondo are nothing new. The Celtics captain is entering into the last year of his contract and a rebuilding Celtics team may be willing to part ways with the point guard if they are not able to acquire other big parts to surround him with. This is would also not be the first time the Rockets have expressed interest in Rondo, but this time they don’t seem to have the pieces admirable in pulling off a trade. The team has already traded center Omer Asik and has lost Chandler Parsons to free agency.

The Rockets apparently allowed Parsons to sign with the Dallas Mavericks to become more flexible financially in hopes of acquiring a big star. They are not only interested in Rondo, but also are interested in re-entering the Kevin Love sweepstakes. Without any meaningful draft picks and with a lack of players that may interest the Celtics, it is unclear as to how the Rockets would pull off a deal that wouldn’t involve James Harden. The Rockets could be dreaming of a big three of Love, Rondo and Dwight Howard.

If a trade is to happen for Rondo, now could be the time as the Celtics may have also lost out on bringing Kevin Love to Boston via trade. With the team drafting Marcus Smart with the sixth pick in the NBA draft, Danny Ainge and company may actually be entertaining the idea of trading their star for the right pieces. It is unclear, however, if the Houston Rockets have the type of pieces worth obtaining for Rondo.
