Everyone has been waiting to see if the Costa Concordia could end up back upright. On Sept. 17, ABC reported that after spending 19 hours trying to pull the ship upright it has been a success. They will now work on pulling the boat back to shore.
The Costa Concordia actually wrecked 20 months ago. It suffered damage during the accident and also a lot of damage while it was sitting there. Balconies and entire sections of the outside look really mangled. It will be interesting to figure out if they can get salvage any of these parts at all.
Franco Porcellacchia, project manager for the Concordia's owner, said that everything went just as planned and they couldn't have been happier. They also think they pulled it off without any environmental spills.
Officials are still hoping to find the two missing bodies that were never located. The Costa Concordia is now upright again and they can start going through the wreckage.
