Phoenix Pagan Pride held a fundraiser on June 18, 2011 at the Alwun House near downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The theme, Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, drew a large crowd to raise money for the future events to be held at Phoenix Pagan Pride Day later this year.
Most of the guests dressed as their favorite Fae or as one of the other characters in the Shakespear classic. There was live music by Cosmos featuring USA Belly Dance Queen, Makara. Other entertainers were from Funny Bones, and of the Earth. There were several specialty dancers, bands, and exciting fire dancers.
Proceeds from this fabulous fund raiser were donated to the organizers of the Phoenix Pagan Pride event. The Phoenix Pagan Pride Day event is held every year to provide the opportunity to educate the public about the diverse Pagan and Neopagan beliefs. They do this by showcasing seasonal celebrations and speakers from various traditions or denominations. The Pagan Pride Day event was started by a few individuals to promote understanding and acceptance of Pagan spirituality, but, as the event grew, they knew that their organization should support and educatethe public at large. They believe their event achieves those goals through lectures, cultural activities such as dance performances, artist displays, various classes, as well as supporting the community by holding food drives and raising funds for various organizations.
Phoenix Pagan Pride Day is held in conjunction with similar events worldwide in such places as New York, Atlanta, Australia and Brazil. We are dedicated to educating the public about Pagan spirituality, that they uphold ethical standards, support civil rights, value ecology as an extension of our view of the Earth as sacred and be well read and interested in learning.
The next Phoenix Pagan Pride Day will be Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Glendale Community College. Come check out this event and have great time learning, networking and shopping. Please bring a non-perishable food item or dry pet food to go to their charities.
