Since it's founding in 1988 as a brew pub in Bend, Oregon, Deschutes Brewery has emerged as the fifth largest craft brewery in the nation. They opened a second pub in Portland's Pearl District (210 NW 11th Ave, Portland, OR) where they serve up their award winning beers paired with food made with fresh local and regional ingredients.
Start one's visit to Deschutes Brewery with a sampler. For those who have never tried their beers, go for the classic sampler where one can try 8 beers for $8.00. More adventurous palates can venture out and try the brewers creations sampler.
Then pair this with one of their burgers prepared by a culinary team led by Executive Chef Jill Ramseier. Choose from the classic brewery burger. As part of the brewery's commitment to sustainability, the burgers come from freshly ground, locally farmed cattle which are grass fed and finished on the brewery’s spent grain. For a leaner option, try their elk berger with topped with gruyère, roasted shallot and thyme mayo, sweet field greens on a brioche bun. For a unique meat lover's paradise go with the bison burger made with Crater Lake bison, smoked pomegranate pork belly, fresh asiago, frisee, and pomegranate molasses aioli. Vegetarians can chomp down on their quinoa and cashew burger. For desert try their thyme for a lemon tart. The combination of lemon curd, thyme mascarpone, and marionberry coulis presents with a flavorful combination that's tangy without being too tart or sweet.
After lunch or dinner, buy one of their growlers or bring a growler and take home 64 ounces of goodness.
