Kickstarter has been hit or miss when it comes to getting indie games fully funded and then produced. Raindrop studios hopes its new survival/horror/puzzle can be one of the success stories. The Kickstarter campaign was launched on October 12, but the game seems to already be getting a great deal of attention.
Raindrop studios describes its newest project as something that is:
Revolving around a horror themed storyline, the chilling and breathtaking atmospheres will keep you inching around each corner while uncovering the hidden truth behind the complex and its inhabitants. Scavenge items to build objects in order to piece together complex puzzles, or dangerous death traps. Gather hints and schematics to unveil rewards and information. Survive both the haunting environment and your own battered sanity.
The game has you running through quite a few empty and foreboding looking fields in order to solve some sort of puzzle. Presumably, at least part of the puzzle is why you suddenly find yourself alone. Attempting to figure out where you are and why you are there tends to be a large part of these kinds of games.
While Kickstarter projects fail far more often than those who start them would like you to believe, there are a couple of factors that work in Raindrop Studios' favor. This particular game started out as a Half-Life 2 modification but problems between the developers eventually railroaded that effort. That does mean that the people behind Raindrop are well versed in how to put together a rich storyline and beautiful scenery.
If the game does come to fruition, slated for both PC and Mac, the developers are currently looking at a July 2015 delivery date. That means that the team seems to think there is still quite a bit of work to do. If they are able to keep it looking as beautiful yet creepy looking as they trailer and the still shots, the finished product will indeed be something to get excited over.
