Rain doesn't dampen spirits at Forney's Hometown Christmas celebration

Saturday, December 3, 2011 brought on and off rain showers to the Forney Hometown Christmas parade and festival. However, the rain did not deter the participants or the crowd who showed up ready to kick off the Christmas season.

Forney has the only Christmas festival in Kaufman County, and every year it seems to get a little bigger and better. Adults and kids came out to downtown Forney to eat, play and shop and even get a photo with a very special guest, Santa Claus. The parade brought cheers from the folks lining the streets and at the festival there were even a few Smurfs spotted at the Forney Family Dentistry booth, as well as the Tooth Fairy.

Upcoming events for Kaufman County for December 3 thru December 13, 2011

The Claybon Elementary School choir performed on the main stage and the Mabank Fire Department came to Forney to put on their funny version of the Wizard of Oz. All the entertainment was well received and appreciated by the attendees. The kids in the audience really seemed to enjoy the play and many made their way over to the bounce houses and bungee cord ride afterwards.

The Forney Lions Club set up their Angel Tree with the names of 153 kids that are in need of new clothes and a new toy for Christmas. By halfway through the festival each angel had been claimed by a local resident willing to help out. 68 Forney families will be helped this Christmas thanks to the Forney Lions Club and generous residents. Those who claimed an angel tag from the tree will need to bring the new, unwrapped clothes and gifts to Johnson Elementary School on December 16 from 5pm to 10pm.

Another way local residents helped out at the festival was by donating blood at the mobile Carter Blood Care bus that was invited to the festivities. Blood donations are always needed and Forney stepped up to help fill the need.
