Rain delays play at the Kansas Senior Series

Severe storms passing through the Kansas City area on Wednesday morning caused a delay in the Kansas Golf Associations final regular tournament of the Kansas Senior Series. The tournament played at the Meadowbrook Country Club in Prairie Village, Kan. was delayed an hour due to lightning in the area. In the second tournament in as many days, no player was able to break par in gross scoring.

In the Overall Flight gross scoring Peter Robbins of Olathe, Kan. shot an even par round on the par 71 course to finish in first place. Wichita, Kan. resident Bill Quattlebaum finished one-shot back at one over par and third place went to Rj Opliger of Kansas City, Kan. at two over par 73. In net scoring, Gary Richter of Overland Park, Kan. finished in first with an adjusted score of four under par 67.

Matt Rose of Shawnee, Kan. posted a seven over par 78 to finish in first place in the 50 to 54 Flight gross scoring. Second place resulted in a tie between Cal Froberg of Lawrence, Kan. and Ron Baker of Topeka, Kan. at nine over par 80. Baker moved to first place in the net scoring with an adjusted score of one under par.

The 55 to 59 Flight gross scoring resulted in Peter Robbins finishing in first at even par. Second place went to Opliger and Bruce Meyer of Wichita, Kan. won third place at eight over par. Robbins remained in first place at three under par in net scoring.

Gary Richter of Overland Park, Kan. finished in first place of the 60 to 64 Flight gross scoring with a round of three over par. Greg McLeod of Overland Park, Kan. finished two strokes back at five over par for second and Doug Kaup took third at six over par. Richter’s adjusted score of four under par keep him in first place in net scoring.

Quattlebaum the second place finisher in the Overall Flight finished in first place in the 65 to 69 Flight gross scoring posting a round of one over par 72. Ron Brewer of Leawood, Kan. and Fran Ferns of Leawood posted four over par 75 to tie for second. Net scoring resulted in a three-way tie for first place between Quattlebaum, Brewer, and Dave Steeples of Hays, Kan. at one under par.

In the 70 and Over Flight gross scoring Ron Kaser of Osborne, Kan. and Jim Copp of Beloit, Kan. finished tied for first place posting scores of one over par. Jim Darrah of Overland Park, Kan. finished in third with a 15 over par round. In net scoring Kaser held on to first place with an adjusted score of one under par.

The Kansas Senior Series Championship will be held September 22-23 at the Salina Country Club in Salina, Kan.
