Friday's horse race at Nottingham has been cancelled due to a waterlogged track. Clerk of the course Robert Bellamy inspected the racecourse 9:30 a.m. after 11 millimetres of rain fell overnight. Officials found the grounds to be waterlogged and will soon announced rescheduling details.
The Met Office announced its Friday weather forecast as follows: “Mostly a mixture of sunshine and showers. Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England seeing the driest weather, but not escaping showers entirely. Elsewhere rather cloudier and showers more frequent, with a risk of thunder and hail. Light winds.”
Additionally, Sunday's meeting at Redcar has been abandoned for the same reasons. Redcar’s weekend event was aimed to support Help For Heroes until wet weather conditions forced officials to abandon the schedule.
General manager Amy Fair said: “It's just so disappointing, not just for us but for all those involved with Help For Heroes as well. We have had six solid weeks of rain and while we've had a couple of dry days, when it rains overnight, you are back at square one again. We have areas of standing water on the five and six furlong courses and it's just not going to go in time.”
