Sprinkles of rain in the morning and more heavy rainfall and wind in the afternoon, led to the announcement at mid-afternoon by event officials that the Stockton Asparagus Festival opening day on Friday, April 25 would be closed early due to weather. The three day festival which is scheduled to continue on April 26, should see just clouds on Saturday, but then on Sunday, April 27, more rain is on the horizon for the 29th Annual celebration.
When the weekend is over and the festival organizers get to work on attendance numbers as well as divvy up the proceeds among over 100 volunteer community based organizations that make up most of the hand-power, it may be interesting to see what the counts show in the final press release.
According to press releases issued by the Stockton Asparagus Festival covering the attendance numbers and proceeds over the last six years, attendance dropped to 75,237 visitors in 2013, down from 104,158 attendees in 2012. In 2011 there were 103,000 festival-goers, compared to 85,000 people in 2010 plus the same number again in 2009, and lastly there were 110,000 visitors in 2008.
