Carter Brown (above) has been officially named as the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League's "Pitcher of the Year" for 2013. Brown had an outstanding summer anchoring a very talented Roanoke Rails pitching staff. The Virgnia Tech grad led the Rails pitching staff with a 1.24 ERA in 51 innings pitched. A Rails veteren, Brown struck out 39 and only allowed 34 hits while recording four wins in his final summer campaign. Roanoke head coach Jeremy Sink stated "For Carter Brown to be chosen 2013 CVCL Pitcher of the Year is a tremendous honor and well deserved. He was the leader and veteran presence of our team and was critical in helping us have a successful summer season.
On his way to becoming an officer in the United States Marine Corps, the Richmond area native has been a stalwart on the Rails pitching staff for three seasons and, until this season, played both middle infielder positions for Roanoke as well. Brown was a leader both on the field and in the dugout for the Rails and is the kind of guy who inspires with his actions, and someone you would want in your foxhole during battle. Kudos to the CVCL for recognizing such a worthy leader of men.
