It is being reported that the Oakland Raiders have cut journeyman quarterback Jeff Garcia.
Garica was brought in over the offseason to be a mentor and to push JaMarcus Russell. However the veteran suffered a calf injury that cost him most of the preseason. During his absence both Bruce Gradkowksi and Charlie Frye played solid if unspectacular football. Garcia, on the other hand, did not get to play much.
Regardless, this move comes as a surprise, as Garcia has a long history of success in the NFL and would seem to be the best option to come in if Russell were to get injured.
This move means that it will be Bruce Gradkowski as the second quarterback and Charlie Frye as the third.
Gradkowski had a poor showing during the offeseason workouts, but showed up once the lights came on and the game began. Frye must have impressed with his strong arm and gritty play.
More to come as it becomes available, and will report after the conference call with Tom Cable at 4 pm.

Garcia will definitely find a place to play within the next two weeks. Maybe Denver or Kansas City.
