Despite being Alberta's representative at the 2013 Minto Cup in New Westminster, British Columbia, the Okotoks Raiders have got off to a slow start in the national junior lacrosse championship. On Saturday, the Raiders lost 9-5 to the British Columbia champion Coquitlam Adanacs and then on Sunday the Raiders were completely overmatched in a 18-4 thumping to the Ontario champion Whitby Warriors.
The Raiders had the opportunity to represent Alberta following a hard fought 4-3 series victory over the Calgary Mountaineers in the Alberta Junior A Championship. In the deciding game on August 10 at Calgary's Stu Peppard Arena, Cole Sheen of the Raiders had three goals and three assists in a 13-3 Okotoks triumph.
The Raiders now have a huge game Monday against the host team, the New Westminster Salmonbellies. A victory over New Westminster and a Coquitlam win over Whitby, would mean the Raiders would advance to the semi-finals on Tuesday. The final is a best of five series that will start on Thursday.
